Berlin, Germany

The one place I always said I didn’t want to visit was Germany. I would always be the guy that points out that both of our world wars were started by them.. Even though my family has a Germany background nothing about the place sounded that interesting. All Americans know about is the war and what came after.

But how could I skip it? I had to go see what everyone loved so much so I booked a week at a hostel and took the train over from Amsterdam. When I arrived I could just feel something in the air. Call me crazy, but I felt depressed just showing up in the city. Thew next two days I tried to shake it off and explore the sights but I just kept running into memorials and the history of the war. The architecture was horrible, and no one building matched the one next to it. It made it even harder to find the beauty of the city.

Other travelers had no issues, they were there for the night life and every night went out to some crazy club. Berlin is  famous for its night life but other than that I didn’t really see a reason to be there. They didn’t even have a unique food culture to enjoy. The experience while worth while just was an odd one. I booked a full week at the hostel I was at but after 2 days I canceled my reservation and left the city.
