Eilat, Israel

Eilat is the Cancun of Israel. The hotels here are massively large and the beaches and huts are incredibly nice. Everyone comes here for vacations, and it seems when they come they bring lots of money. The entire area is a tax free shopping zone so people go nuts in the shops buying things, but don’t expect low prices. So the places is perfect for shopping, partying, and going to the beach. Why on earth did I go there.

The Red Sea. I really wanted to go diving in the red sea and I was going to Jordan anyway so it seemed perfect to come here. I ended up spending two days in town. The first day was walking the shore and looking in the mall, and the second day was spent in the water.

I will say that that even though the city offers nothing to the traveler, the Red Sea more than makes up for it. The reefs are actually only in 10ft (3m) of water so there is no need to go diving. There is also no need to pay for the reef park in town. One of the best kept secrets is the beach area down by the Egypt border area. You can camp here on the beach for free and you walk right into the best reefs of the area. Just rent a snorkel set for $10 USD and walk into the water. You can use the city bus to bring you down here from town. Its super easy and if you were camping could be an incredibly cheap visit.
