Guangzhou offers very little for tourists and its not known for anything tourists related really. But I stopped here because I wanted to at least visit some city in Southern China and the Canton area. Guangzhou seemed as good as any other and also offered me easy transportation to Hong Kong by next stop.
I spent 2 nights in Guangzhou and that was plenty, as mentioned its not really a tourist friendly city. But it still is a very lovely city and has a nice downtown area and a few things to go check out.
With my two days there I pretty much just walked the town. This is one of my favorite things to do and usually lets me see many different parts of town. I visited some of the outer areas of town, the central business area, and many residential areas each with their own charms and fun little things to do. I was also looking for a Tern bike dealer which lead me to some areas a tourist wouldn’t really go. I didn’t buy one but being in China really makes you feel like you need to buy a bike. They have amazing bikes and they are crazy cheap.
Down here the locals speak Cantonese instead of Mandarin and they have a totally different food culture. Both of which were not very appealing to me. The language seemed much harsher than what I was used to, and the food was spicy and made of anything edible. While I am sure some people love it I just didn’t find to my taste.
The night before I left I decided I should do something in town so I visited the Chimelong International Circus at the local amusement park. This area is almost like being at Disney Land. We are taking a high-class large area with its own subway stop. Chimelong Paradise Amusement Park means business. The circus was listed as one of the top things to do in town on TripAdvisor and I have to agree. It seriously was the best circus I have ever seen and the crowd loved every minute of it. It was insanely over the top, I mean really they live hippo in it. Heck I can’t think of an animal that didn’t run across the stage. It was a sight to see, and crazy fun. I was the only foreigner in the audience and the family’s there loved to see my reaction to things.
