Where do you go to escape world war 2 history and Berlin? To Warsaw, Poland of course. I never had any reason to come here, and its somewhere I never thought about going. But it was an easy train ride from Berlin and sounded like a great chance to enter a new country.
I booked 3 nights here and was perfectly happy the whole time. Warsaw was surprisingly nice and even though it still had a history of war it was from them trying to live though the war which was easier to deal with. The people of Poland were incredibly friendly and it was easy to chat with people in the hostel and on staff. Its not a city full of tourist attractions but I had a great time just exploring the city for a few days. I took a day to visit the Warsaw uprising museum and learn more about their part of the war which was really fascinating.
Did I mention that the food was amazing? No? Well it was! I was able to avoid the more touristy food by eating a local places called “Milk Bars” that are cafeterias left over from the Soviet days. The food is simple and delicious and incredibly cheap. Make sure to visit one if your in town. But makes sure you know what you want, because the menus will not be in English.
